Philanthropy
As you can see from looking
at our calendar, we are always giving of our time to community service
projects.ハOne of the largest that we participated in this past year
was the University of Oklahoma's first ever Big Event.ハGroups of
students from the entire campus descended upon Norman and the surrounding
community on April 1st 2000.ハOU students walked pets, carried groceries,
painted homes and mowed lawns for our neighbors in the Norman community.ハ
We Chi Omegas were dispatched
to a Norman Church to dust, mop, shine silver and do we could to
tidy up the church.ハWe met some wonderful new friends, had a great
pizza lunch and learned a lot about stained glass windows.ハThe Big
Event is a project that OU and Chi Omega will certainly sponsor
again.
As a chapter, we have
began two fun, beneficial projects and hope to add another this
year.

Our Spring Philanthropy
is called Campus Kidnap.
Campus Kidnap was developed by members Lindsey Bean
and Leah Moses.ハThey put together the first Campus Kidnap in the
Spring of 1998.ハThe goal of this philanthropy is to bring the entire
campus together to benefit the Norman community.ハOn the day of the
philanthropy, Chi Omega members "kidnap" the leader of each participating
campus organization and steal them away to the Chi Omega house for
snacks and entertainment.ハChi Omega members then meet the members
of participating organizations and span out through the Norman community
to go door to door and collect cans for Norman's Food and Shelter
for Friends.ハLast year we collected over 15,000 cans!ハThere is a
minimum "ransom" in cans that the organizations have to collect
in order to retrieve their leaders from the Chi-O house.ハThe team
to return with the most amount of cans wins Campus Kidnap.
We are proud to be able to give back to the Norman
community because they give so much to us as students.ハWe also enjoy
getting to make new friends in all campus organizations.ハThe community
feeling is very real at the University of Oklahoma and we are happy
to help contribute with our Campus Kidnap Philanthropy.

Our Christmas Philanthropy December 1999 was called
Chi-O Christmas and was a delightful party for our members as well
as the children. Our Chi Omega members met children from HeadStart
and Promising Tomorrows at the Oklahoma City Blazers Ice Hockey
Arena. There, our members were matched with one of the children
for ice skating, cookie decorating and a chance to sit on Santa's
lap and reveal their Christmas wishes!ハWe had a great time entertaining
our new friends and spreading Christmas joy.
